During the Korean War in the 1950s, the United States conducted psychological operations (PSYOP) by dropping leaflets on Chinese forces. These leaflets were part of a broader effort to influence the morale, mindset, and behavior of the enemy troops. The content of the leaflets varied but often included messages aimed at demoralizing Chinese soldiers, highlighting the benefits of surrender, and undermining their confidence in the Communist leadership. The leaflets sometimes featured images and text in Chinese, emphasizing themes such as the futility of the war, the harsh conditions faced by soldiers, and the potential rewards of cooperating with the United Nations forces. PSYOP leaflet campaigns were a tactical aspect of psychological warfare during the conflict, attempting to use information and persuasion to impact the enemy's psychological state and decision-making processes. This particular design is inspired directly by a 1953 PSYOP leaflet, warning those who receive it that "the cold is coming".
