TYPE 20 5.56MM - Oversized Sweatshirt

The Howa Type 20 is a modern, modular rifle adopted by the Japan Self-Defense Forces to replace the older Howa Type 89. Designed for durability in Japan’s challenging environments, it handles well in humid and mountainous terrains. Chambered in 5.56x45mm NATO, the Type 20 offers improved ergonomics with an adjustable stock and ambidextrous controls, catering to a variety of users and combat roles.

Unlike it's predecessor, the Type 20 features picatinny rails (some versions are seen with a MLOK handguard) from the factory for optics and accessories. Also new is ability to mount a Beretta GLX160 grenade launcher, expanding its versatility. Additionally, the Type 20 includes a bayonet mount, maintaining traditional close-quarters capability alongside its modern upgrades.

The first examples of the Type 20 were purchased in 2019, and was seen overseas for the first time in Operation Talisman Sabre with ARDB (Amphibious Rapid Deployment Brigade) in 2023.
